Quebecor Content on Tuesday announced a licensing agreement with Disney+ to bring five one-hour, made-in-Quebec drama series to the platform for streaming in Canada.
Distributed by TVA Distribution, Quebecor Content’s original series Mouse Trap is set to join Disney+ soon, with Chaos, Mégantic, Son of Mine and IXE-13: Racing for the Uranium already available to stream, according to a Quebecor Content press release Tuesday.
“We’re incredibly proud to see these five standout Quebec series join the Disney+ catalogue,” Luana Ann Church, Quebecor Content’s vice president of development, acquisitions and distribution, said in the press release. “Showcasing them allows global audiences to experience the full depth, authenticity and creative force of our storytelling.”
Calling the agreement with Disney+ “an exciting milestone,” Sylvie Langlois, Quebecor Content’s senior director of formats and head of international development, said: “Licensing five Quebec-series highlights the global appeal of our French-language storytelling and the strength of Quebec’s creative talent.”
“This collaboration with Quebecor Content allows us to expand our French-language offering with five incredible local shows,” Jason Badal, vice president and general manager of Disney+ Canada, said in a statement. “Quebec storytelling creates a deep connection with viewers and we are delighted to give them a home on Disney+ for viewers across Canada to enjoy.”
Produced by Also Productions, Mégantic (six episodes x 60 minutes) centres on real-life events that occurred during the 2013 Lac-Mégantic train disaster. “The series follows the impact on the town’s residents, marked by grief and trauma, but also by solidarity, courage, and heroism,” reads a description in Quebecor Content’s press release.
Chaos (10 x 60 minutes), produced by Amalga, follows a group of young adults and their families “whose lives are completely altered when a tragic and vicious attack interrupts a concert by their favorite idol, INVO,” reads a synopsis.
Produced by Sphère Média, IXE-13: La course à l’uranium (aka IXE-13: Racing for the Uranium; eight x 60 minutes) follows Jean Thibault, alias IXE-13, who finds himself unwillingly at the heart of a new espionage operation.
Mon Fils (aka Son of Mine; six x 60 minutes) is produced by Duo Productions and tells of the fall of 18-year-old Jacob, who struggles with mental illness. “Psychosis invades everything, corrupts everything, and shatters the future,” a description says.
Also produced by Duo Productions, Piégés (aka Mouse Trap; six x 60 minutes) follows five strangers who find themselves imprisoned in cells filled with traps. “Spied on and manipulated by a person known as ‘the Cat’, they only have one solution to get out: find out what they have in common,” reads a synopsis.
