QUEBEC CITY – Quebecor Media said Tuesday that it has inked a 25 year agreement for the management and naming rights to Quebec City’s future arena.
The company confirmed that it has “made financial commitments of between $110 million and $200 million” to the arena, which is slated to open at the end of 2015, and believes that the deal will help in its quest to attract an NHL franchise back to Quebec City.
"Quebec is one of the most wonderful hockey cities in the world and I am determined to bring the Nordiques back”, said president and CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau, in a statement. “In order for this to happen, our priority is to keep building trust with our partners, while abiding by the NHL’s usual business practices, including remaining discreet about our undertakings."
Quebecor also said that it plans to attract the biggest names in show business to the arena, and position the city as a must stop for all major North American tours.
