Quebec will collect sales tax from Netflix beginning January 1st

MONTREAL – Netflix will begin collecting the provincial sales from its Quebec customers starting January 1st, 2109.According to a Le Journal de Québec report, Finance Minister Éric Girard confirmed Monday that the province has formally requested that Netflix charge and remit the Quebec Sales Tax (QST) of 9.975%.  The streaming giant told Cartt.ca two years ago that it would collect sales tax in any jurisdiction it was told to do so.  Quebec subscribers will not be charged GST, added the report, noting that the Federal government specifically asked the province to ensure that only QST is collected.
