Quebec grants $121,000 to community radio station

CHÂTEAUGUAY, Que. — The Quebec government has granted $121,000 in financial assistance to community radio station CHAI-FM in Châteauguay for the replacement of certain equipment and the installation of an antenna.

The announcement was made Tuesday by MarieChantal Chassé, member of Quebec’s national assembly for Châteauguay, on behalf of the province’s minister of culture and communications, Nathalie Roy. The government funding is allocated under the province’s capital assistance program and will help to modernize the radio station’s broadcasting equipment, says the Quebec government press release.

CHAI-FM is the only radio station broadcasting from Châteauguay in the territory of the regional county municipality of Roussillon (located south of Montreal on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River). The community radio station’s mission is to promote the identity of the people living in the region by offering distinctive and quality programming focused on local and regional information, says the press release.

“I am happy with the announcement made today. This new equipment will allow the station to better serve the MRC de Roussillon. Thanks to this financial support, the station will improve the quality of its broadcasting and will thus be able to reach the majority of the territory’s citizens. CHAI-FM represents an important link in our collective life since it remains a reliable, efficient and creative channel of communication, in addition to being a real reflection of the dynamism of our community,” said Chassé, in an English translation of the press release.
