Quadro breaks ground on $5.2-million broadband project in Oxford County

OXFORD COUNTY — Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) and the Ontario government announced today construction has started on a $5.2-million broadband project to bring improved Internet service to more than 325 homes and businesses in the Township of Zorra in Oxford County, located east of London, Ont.

Quadro Communications was awarded the contract in October 2020, which will see the ISP deploy 106 kms of fibre along underserved roads in the communities of Fairview, Maplewood, Brooksdale, Youngsville, Bennington and Braemar, according to a list of approved projects in Oxford County on SWIFT’s website. The Quadro project is expected to be completed by the end of December 2022.

“This fibre-optic project targets many rural homes and farms located along concession lines and sideroads surrounding the community of Brooksdale and is the first of seven SWIFT awarded projects in Oxford County to start construction,” said Barry Field, SWIFT’s executive director, in a press release.

The governments of Ontario and Canada are each providing $1.3 million to fund this broadband expansion project, says the Ontario government’s press release.
