Q3 at MTS highlighted by 20% TV penetration


WINNIPEG – When public companies highlight their quarterly performances, they usually pick a few bullet points to lead the press release.

Second in the Manitoba Telecom Services’ pecking order in this quarter’s release was to point out that its digital television service, MTS TV, is now at 20.5% penetration in Winnipeg.

That translates into 46,713 customers, an 83.3% increase from a year ago.

Wireless and Internet customers continued their growth as well. Wireless customers passed the 300,000 mark with double-digit revenue growth, while its high-speed Internet customer base increased by 23.7%.

However, while revenue increased in the quarter ended September 30th 2005 to $516.2 million, up from $496 million at the end of Q3 2004, operating income fell to $88 million from $95 million. The company cited increased competition in telephony on all fronts, from local to national – in its Allstream division.
