TORONTO – New wireless entrant Public Mobile has secured funding from some notable Canadian investors.
Peter Thomson, Fred Eaton and Patrick Brigham have joined OMERS Private Equity, the private equity arm of the OMERS Worldwide group of companies, in backing the new company as it prepares to launch before the end of the year.
“We chose to invest in Public Mobile because of its unmatched cost structure, sound business plan and proven Canadian management team,” said Peter Thomson, president of Thomvest Seed Capital, in a statement. He has also joined the board of directors of Public Mobile.
Public Mobile’s CEO Alek Krstajic said that employees have also invested their own money in the company, which he called “deeply touching”.
“A good, solid company will always attract Canadian investors”, he said in a statement. “The support of successful Canadian entrepreneurs and investors highlights the importance of creating a more competitive wireless market in this country.”
