Public Mobile launches Wednesday

TORONTO – Public Mobile will launch its new wireless network in Toronto at midnight on Wednesday.

It will also roll out some new price plans and service options, including one package priced at $24 for unlimited talk, the company said Tuesday.

“We want to offer all the value we can in the marketplace,” said CEO Alek Krstajic, in a statement. “38% of Canadians don’t have a cell phone because of unpredictable prices. We want to make owning a cell phone affordable, and give everybody the chance to talk. Owning a cell phone shouldn’t be a luxury.”

Public Mobile opened 25 stores in March to begin pre-selling  its handsets and packages, and according to Krstajic, “thousands of customers signed up early”.  It has since more than doubled the number of retail stores, with 60 stores now open in Toronto and Montreal.
