Public consultation on CBC broadcast antenna on Mount Royal

MONTREAL – The Office de consultation publique de Montreal (OCPM) on Wednesday will launch a public consultation on the site of the CBC broadcast antenna in Mount Royal Park. The first session starts at 7 p.m. at the Basement of Saint-Kevin Church, located at 5590 Côte-des-Neiges.

The consultation will focus on a new draft lease agreement for the broadcast tower as the current deal expires on December 31. The new agreement calls for the CBC antenna to be on the same site for another ten years. The amount to be paid by CBC/Radio-Canada would be $500,000 in the first year, and then indexed annually. There would be no option to renew for an additional five years.

The city is proposing that part of the money be used to protect and enhance Mount Royal.

The public consultation will include the draft agreement, the location of the antenna, public health and safety issues, and landscape considerations.

All briefs will be presented at a separate session on October 29, also beginning at 7 p.m. at the Basement of Saint-Kevin Church.

Interested parties can review the related documentation during regular business hours at the OCPM office, located at 1550 Metcalfe Street, Suite 1414, Montreal, or on the web at www.ocpm.qc.ca.

The deadline for submitting oral presentations and filling written briefs to the OCPM is October 23.

The OCPM was given the mandate by the City of Montreal’s executive committee to hold the public consultation.
