MONTREAL – Quebecor’s broadcaster/TV producer/publisher TVA Group reported last week that it posted $9.2 million in net income attributable to shareholders in the fourth quarter, up from $5.7 million in the same period in 2016.

Revenues, however, dropped to $155.3 million for the period ended December 31, 2017, down from $169.5 million year-over-year.  This is due in part to $1.21 million unfavourable variance in its broadcasting and production segment, mainly because of a 9.5% decrease in the adjusted operating income of TVA Network, the company said in a press release.

“We are satisfied with our results for the last quarter of our financial year”, said president and CEO France Lauzière, in the release.  “The Broadcasting & Production segment was impacted by a negative adjustment to the revenues of the Corporation's specialty channels, notably an adjustment made following the CRTC decision on the rate payable by Bell for distribution of the TVA Sports channel.  Nevertheless, our specialty channels' advertising revenues continued to grow, increasing by 9.8% compared with the same quarter of 2016.”

TVA Group's total market share rose 0.9 point to 36.4% in Q4 2017, compared with 35.5% in the same period of 2016, the company added.  TVA Network had a 24.3% market share and 7 shows that attracted more than a million viewers, including the grand finale of La Voix Junior which peaked at 2,476,000 viewers.
