Canadian producer Dominic Ewenson on Tuesday announced the official launch of French Toast Films, a full-service production company based in Hamilton, Ont., which he says is dedicated to championing bold, diverse voices and globally resonant stories.
The production company launches with its debut project, the horror feature Lice, for which it provided service production for actor Kevin Connolly’s U.S.-based ActionPark Media. The film stars Connolly alongside Emile Hirsch and Justin Long and is currently in post-production. It follows a deadly outbreak of lice at a Long Island high school in the 1980s, during which the itch-crazed students turn on each other to survive after the school goes under military lockdown.
French Toast Films is also launching with a development slate of features and series spanning comedy, romance and horror. These include:
- Carolers’ Crossing: A 100-minute Christmas comedy feature, produced by Ewenson alongside Rebecca Dalton and Genelle Williams, currently seeking sales representation and set to film in 2026.
- Financially Fabulous: A queer financial advice series (10 episodes x 30 minutes) following advisor Aman Banwait as he travels across Canada helping young people manage their money in today’s fast-paced world.
- Hebrew School Dropout: A 100-minute period comedy feature set in the late 1990s.
- Shared Spaces: A French/Italian/English romantic comedy set along the Mediterranean coast.
- The Flick: A 100-minute horror feature about a film crew shooting a horror short film in an old mansion in the middle of nowhere.
“With more than a decade of experience, Ewenson has produced 22 films and numerous commercials, building a reputation as both a skilled producer and line producer,” reads a press release announcing the launch of French Toast Films. “His new venture represents a commitment to fostering the next generation of filmmakers while continuing to deliver content that resonates worldwide.”
“Filmmaking should be fun, creative, and collaborative, but is so often slowed down by industry barriers and red tape. French Toast Films was born from the belief that filmmaking doesn’t have to follow the old rules,” Ewenson said in the press release. “We’re proving every day that you can challenge industry norms, support talent, and still deliver world-class results.”
Some of Ewenson’s past TV and film credits as a producer and line producer include The Love Club, All the Lost Ones, Last County, Woodland Grey, My Sister’s Double Life and The Love Subscription (L’amour en coffret).
