REGINA – SaskTel has targeted the residential community of Prince Albert as next in line to receive its new fibre optic network infiNET.
infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) Program, a $670 million investment to deploy fibre optics directly to homes and upgrade the broadband network in Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford and Prince Albert, the nine largest urban centers in the province.
Once connected, infiNET will allow customers to experience Internet speeds of up to 200 Mbps for downloading and 60 Mbps for uploading, plus enable the company's Max television customers to add up to seven high definition set top boxes in one home.
Preliminary construction work has begun in Prince Albert, and customers can expect to have infiNET available to their homes this spring, with fibre optics projected to be deployed to all residential areas of the city within a year, the company said in a news release.
“infiNET will future proof SaskTel’s network by allowing upgrades for future speed increases without the need to replace the fibre optics,” said president and CEO Ron Styles, in the release. “infiNet features revolutionary speeds that will allow our customers to transfer files, download movies and music in a fraction of the time, have uninterrupted video streaming and online chat.”
