Primus opens new Internet Data Centre in Edmonton

EDMONTON — Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. is opening a new Internet Data Centre (IDC) in Edmonton to provide better IT support to local small and medium-sized businesses by housing and managing computer server hardware and software assets in Alberta.

The data centre in its first phase will have 4,000 square feet of raised floor space with options for 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, full-sized and custom cages for collocation space.

The expansion has resulted in Primus hiring 12 additional sales employees and five network staff in Edmonton , and seven sales employees in Calgary.

“Our SMB customers have told us that in order to stay competitive, they need to avoid a crisis of complexity – too many IT options and not enough clarity,” said AJ Byers, senior VP of Primus Business Services. “With Alberta’s economy growing so quickly SMBs need complete solutions that allow them to focus on their core business.”

“Rising oil and gas prices have led to an economic boom in Alberta with unprecedented levels of capital investment. This rise is creating a snowball effect, leading to increased investment in many industry areas including IT and Managed Services,” said Sebastien Ruest, VP of the Services Research group at International Data Corporation Canada. “As a result, International Data Corporation Canada is seeing improved performance among many of the services firms located in Alberta and a migration of new entrants into the province.”
