Primus Canada announces co-lo build and new bundle

TORONTO – ISP and voice over IP provider Primus Canada said today it is constructing a local colocation network covering three million households and businesses in five Canadian provinces.

This phase of the network build, which is a joint endeavour with a Canadian CLEC it didn’t name, "uses state-of-the-art ADSL2+ technology and will be largely complete by the end of June 2006," says the press release. The company also said that nearly 1,000 Primus Canada customers are currently receiving the optimized high-speed access as part of a trial at its current market rates.

Known as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, ADSL2+ is the next generation of DSL technology allowing more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines at a faster speed than current DSL services. Primus Canada’s ADSL2+ technology offers Internet access speeds up to of 22 Mbps to consumers, says the company.

"Primus Canada can now offer the fastest download speeds in the country," said Ted Chislett, president.

By the end of June 2006, Primus Canada will be differentiated from other VOIPsters in that it will have facilities across Canada, opening the door for enhanced services and advanced capabilities.

In the areas served by this local network, Primus in co-operation with that CLEC, is also introducing enhanced local phone service. Local customers will be able to enjoy the same advanced features as Primus’ TalkBroadband VOIP.

The Triple Value Bundle Primus has now launched (at $69.95) consists of local phone service, unlimited features, unlimited long distance to Canada and the US, and the company’s high-speed Internet service. The services and features available in its bundle at this price point represent savings for consumers of up to $43 a month compared to the offerings of other major telecommunications and cable companies, says Primus.

"This level of Internet access speed, advanced features, and savings dramatically improves the user-experience for our customers," said Chislett
