QUEBEC – In a campaign stop in Quebec City today, Parti Québecois leader Jean-François Lisée launched his party’s cultural platform, in the context of Quebec’s provincial election campaign just under way.

“We want to ensure that sites that distribute cultural content—Netflix, iTunes and others, Spotify—offer greater access to Quebec productions, so that Quebeckers see more of our cultural content. We have no intention to limit foreign content on these platforms, on these sites,” said Nathalie Leclerc, a local candidate.

As well, American giants would be expected to play by the same rules as Quebec’s companies. “We are determined to bring back a fair competition between the digital content players and Quebec’s enterprises: all should pay sales taxes,” added Diane Lavallée, another local candidate.

Quebeckers head to the polls on October 1st, and the Parti Québécois is currently a distant third in the polls.
