TORONTO – As widely anticipated, the portable people meters (PPM) have shaken up the radio ratings for some of Canada’s largest radio markets.
According to PPM data for March 1 to May 30, 2010, from BBM, CBC Radio One has been toppled from its long held spot atop the rankings in the markets of Vancouver and Toronto.
Corus’ news talk CKNW led the Vancouver market this Spring with a 14.3% share, followed by two of CTVglobemedia’s stations: CHQM FM with 9.1% and CFBT FM with 6.9%. In Toronto, Rogers-owned CHFI FM was tops with a 13.7% share, followed by CTVglobemedia’s CHUM FM with 10.3%, and Astral’s CHBM FM (formerly known as CJEZ FM) with 9.6%.
In the Montreal market, Astral’s news talk station CJAD continued to dominate the Anglo market with a 24.6% share, followed by its Virgin station CJFM FM at 18.1%. Corus’ news talk stations in Calgary and Edmonton led their respective markets with Calgary’s CHQR garnering a 9.9% share, and CHED registering a 10.5% share in Edmonton. Calgary’s second spot was held by Corus’ country station CKRY FM with 9.0% and in Edmonton, Newcap’s CKRA FM earned an 8.8% share.
BBM’s top line results using diary data for March 1 to April 25, 2010 showed that CBO FM nailed top spot in Ottawa with a 17.2% share, while in Winnipeg, Corus’ CJOB continues to lead with a 15.3% share.
