Popular cop joins CP24 full time

TORONTO – High-profile and now soon-to-be-retired Ontario Provincial Police officer Cam Woolley will join CTVglobemedia’s all-news channel CP24 in September.

No stranger to working in front of the TV camera or a microphone, Woolley has become a fixture on local newscasts across the GTA with his plentiful and colorful reports from the OPP Highway Safety Division.

Woolley is leaving the OPP after 30 years of service and will join CP24’s on-air team beginning on Tuesday, September 2 immediately following his final Labour Day road safety blitz.

"It’s hard to believe I’ve found a second career that lets me talk even more than I do right now," said Woolley in the press release. "There are dozens of commuting stories that break on Toronto’s roads every day, and I can’t wait to join CP24 and be on the other side of the microphone, helping folks get to and from home more safely."

Woolley will helm the CP24 Breaking News Cruiser, reporting live throughout the day from locations throughout the GTA. In addition to his duties at CP24, Woolley will also lend his expertise to other CTV newscasts and programs, says the company.

Over the years Woolley has received recognition from numerous organizations for his role in bringing traffic safety issues into the media spotlight, promoting public awareness and discussion on everything from bad drivers on a holiday weekend, street racing, highway design problems, fatigue, seat belts and drunk driving. He has also been the OPP’s lead investigator on many high-profile, fatal motor vehicle collisions involving unsafe rigs and hit-and-runs.
