TORONTO – Astral-owned children’s channel Playhouse Disney and its French-language counterpart Playhouse Disney Télé will rebrand to Disney Junior on May 6.
In addition to new programming, Disney Junior will weave storytelling throughout its schedule with the integration of popular characters into animated branding elements. These elements, including the incorporation of character components in the network logo and interstitials revealing short situational stories starring character icons, will ensure that younger viewers can easily navigate and stay engaged with the channel’s programming lineup.
"The transformation to Disney Junior and the launch of new programming such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates marks an exciting time for the channel," said Joe Tedesco, SVP and GM of Family and Playhouse Disney, in the announcement. "Featuring recognizable characters and a focus on learning, Disney Junior will hearken back to the magic of classic Disney and the characters and storytelling that we all love. The new brand and its programming strike the perfect balance between classic and contemporary to offer a unique viewing experience that families will delight in."
