TORONTO – North America’s first user-generated mobile picture messaging service on broadcast television has launched on CTV Inc.’s digital channel PunchMuch.
Viewers can now send pictures to be broadcast on PunchMuch, along with traditional text-based messages, from their mobile devices while the top voted music videos are playing. The pictures are send through Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) technology.
“Delivering multi-platform engagement with content is our No.1 priority,” said Brad Schwartz, senior vice-president and general manager of Music and Youth Services at CTV Inc. “We encourage our audience to tell us what they want and then we deliver on those needs. By combining the video voting component with picture and text messaging, PunchMuch is truly leading the way in viewer controlled, lean-forward interactive television.”
PunchMuch is North America’s first fully automated video jukebox channel, enabling viewers to determine programming by voting for the music videos they want to see from their mobile device. Real time results are displayed on screen and the system automatically tabulates votes and transitions to new videos based on leading vote getters.
PunchMuch has partnered with MyThum to bring the application to viewers.
