Pelmorex aids Ontario’s Amber Alerts program

ORILLIA, ON – Thanks to a new partnership with Weather Network-owner Pelmorex Communications, the Ontario Amber Alert Program can now take advantage of a broader alerting system to enhance the distribution of Amber Alerts across the province.

Pelmorex created the National Alert Aggregation and Dissemination System (NAAD) in 2010 to give authorized users the ability to disseminate emergency alerts to the public through various media outlets.

"Our NAAD System will deliver Ontario’s Amber Alerts to media outlets in seconds, allowing broadcasters and other media to pass these critical messages on to the public quickly and efficiently", said Paul Temple, SVP of regulatory and strategic affairs for Pelmorex, in Thursday’s announcement.

Established in 2003, the Ontario Amber Alert is a warning system that quickly alerts the public about abducted children under the age of 18 who are in danger.  It is coordinated by the Ontario Provincial Police on behalf of the Ontario Amber Alert Steering Committee.

"Thanks to our new partnership with Pelmorex, the Amber Alert program can incorporate the NAAD System into its operating procedures, giving us more hope than ever before in locating abducted children in Ontario", said OPP Deputy Commissioner Larry Beechey.
