
Includes 200+ hours of TV broadcasts and 1,000+ hours livestreamed and on-demand
OTTAWA – The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) announced today over 200 hours of coverage from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be televised on CBC/Radio-Canada, Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) and Sportsnet from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5.
Additionally, over 1,000 hours of coverage will be livestreamed and broadcasted on-demand on Paralympic.ca/Tokyo-2020, cbc.ca/tokyo2020 and Radio-Canada.ca/jeux-paralympiques, the CBC Sports app, CBC Gem, and the Radio-Canada Sports app, according to a CPC press release.
“CPC will also premiere two digital shows a day on Facebook and Twitter featuring live competition and top highlights from the day,” the press release reads. “Broadcast and livestream coverage will be supplemented with digital content on the CPC social media channels, including interviews with athletes, highlights packages, and live clippings during the events.”
In its own press release, CBC/Radio-Canada announced it will televise over 120 original hours of Paralympic coverage and livestream another 1,000 hours.
“Described video will be offered on all of CBC’s Daytime and Prime Time television coverage, and on the simulcast digital live-streams of live broadcasts, provided by Descriptive Video Works,” the release says.
Coverage begins with the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 6 a.m. ET, “hosted by Scott Russell and wheelchair racing legend, Senator Chantal Peticlerc. The Opening Ceremony will be presented on CBC TV with closed captioning and described video, and streaming coverage will also include American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.”
CBC Sports will also offer daily episodes of While You Were Sleeping, which will stream live at 6 a.m. ET and will recap what happened overnight. CBC’s The Breakdown, hosted by Vivek Jacob will feature athlete interviews, analysis and will highlight stories of significance. Both shows are available on all of CBC’s social and digital platforms including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
AMI also announced details of its Paralympic coverage for AMI-tv and AMI-audio in a press release.
“AMI will air a total of 45 hours of Paralympic coverage from CBC. All coverage will be accessible to audience members who are blind or partially sighted with live described video,” the release says.
Sportsnet will re-broadcast CBC late night shows the next morning on Sportsnet One.
