LGBTQ+ television and streaming service OUTtv announced Monday it has expanded into Asia through a partnership with Chunghwa Telecom, launching OUTtv as a linear offering in Taiwan beginning March 18.
Chunghwa Telecom is the largest telecom in Taiwan, with two million subscribers to its Multimedia On Demand (MOD) IPTV service. OUTtv viewers on Chunghwa will have access to the service’s LGBTQ+-targeted original programming including hit series For the Love of DILFs, Sew Fierce and Call Me Mother, as well as library content from OUTtv’s original series, documentaries, films and specials.
The channel launch in Taiwan is part of OUTtv’s strategic collaboration with Ulight Entertainment Technology, which is supporting the distribution of OUTtv as a channel across Asia, explained a Monday press release from OUTtv.
“It’s been our goal for a long time to launch in Asia — it’s evident that there has been huge demand for a service that creates and provides authentic and diverse storytelling, both for and by the LGBTQ+ community,” said Brad Danks, CEO of OUTtv, in the press release. “We’re proud to be bringing our channel to the region for the first time, launching in Taiwan with our partners Chunghwa and Ulight, and look forward to continuing to expand our reach, bringing our programming to LGBTQ+ audiences, their friends, families and allies across Asia.”
“The launch of OUTtv on Chunghwa Telecom is a significant first step in bringing more diverse and inclusive content to audiences in Asia. Through our partnership, Ulight has been instrumental in facilitating this expansion, ensuring that OUTtv’s unique programming reaches new viewers in Taiwan. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to support global content providers in navigating the Asian market,” Lei Chi Chen, CEO and founder of Ulight Entertainment Technology, said in a statement.
OUTtv said it is working closely on its expansion into Asia with Ulight as well as Greg Ang and Harold Gronenthal of GangTV, Ang’s long-standing Singapore-based content and distribution company.
OUTtv’s expansion into Asia continues a period of international growth for the broadcaster and streamer, following launches in New Zealand through a partnership with Prime Video as well as its newly rebranded subscription video-on-demand service OUTflix’s expansion into the Nordics with Allente in 2024.
