OUTtv and Inside Out launch LGBTQ2+ film talent database

VANCOUVER and LOS ANGELES — OUTtv, Canada’s only specialty service dedicated to LGBTQ2+ communities, and Inside Out, the largest LGBTQ2+ film festival in Canada, announced today the launch of “Out on Set”, a free online database of North American queer film talent.

“Out on Set will connect LGBTQ2+ cast and crew with production companies, studios, networks and agencies across the USA and Canada through an online database where industry professionals can easily search for specific queer crew and talent,” reads a press release.

The database can be used to search for talent and crew by location, job category, gender identity, sexual orientation, racialized/ethnic identity and disability identifiers.

Developed internally at OUTtv, the Out on Set database “was created with the intention of increasing LGBTQ2+ hires across all stages of production — from the writers’ room to postproduction and to eliminate any barriers of employment faced by LGBTQ2+ talent,” the release says.

In addition, the database “aims to connect queer storytellers with the teams that provide the best opportunities to bring their projects to life.”

“We understand firsthand the difficulties in sourcing the best creative talent and the need for better representation across the board,” says Brad Danks, CEO of OUTtv, in the release.

“Through the creation of Out on Set we want to make it easier for production companies and networks to connect with queer talent in all areas of creativity and production,” Danks says.

“Inside Out has always championed queer storytelling and engaged in the professional development of our diverse alumni base of filmmakers, this next step will expand opportunities to gain employment and experience both in front and behind the camera,” a spokesperson for Inside Out said in the press release.

The Out on Set database is located online here.
