OTT provider CinemaNow eyes Canadian launch in September

SANTA CLARA, CA – Canadians will soon have another way to get their video content with word that CinemaNow is planning to launch in Canada this fall.

CinemaNow is a digital entertainment service that does not require a subscription to provide access to new release movies, independent titles, and next-day TV shows. It is planning to launch in September through Best Buy Canada and Future Shop, available initially on-line before expanding to offer access through Internet-connected devices such as TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles, set-top boxes, PCs, and mobile devices.

As it is in the U.S., the service will be powered by the RoxioNow platform and cloud services from Rovi. The RoxioNow cloud-based locker will allow customers to access the content that they purchase from CinemaNow-enabled devices.

"We look forward to helping provide more Canadian consumers with easy access to premium entertainment from their favorite devices and expanding our relationship with Best Buy,” said Corey Ferengul, EVP products at Rovi Corporation, in the announcement. “With broad promotions at retail locations nationwide, we believe Best Buy Canada and Future Shop will help significantly increase awareness for the benefits of broadband-delivered entertainment.”
