NEWMARKET, ON – CityWest Cable and Telephone Corp. have joined the Ontario Telecommunications Association (OTA) as its 23rd member.
Owned and operated in northern B.C., CityWest provides telecommunications, cable and Internet services to homes and businesses in Prince Rupert, Port Edward, Terrace, Thornhill, Kitimat, Smithers, Telkwa, Houston, Stewart, Kispiox and the Hazeltons.
“As an independent provider of telecom services in a remote area, we understand the value of working together with like-minded and situated companies as much as anyone”, said CityWest CEO Bill Craig, in the announcement. “In joining the Association, we gain access to a network of independent providers that are dealing with the same challenges and similar opportunities as we are. On regulatory matters, we gain access to valuable advice and knowledge, and will benefit from joining a common voice. We also hope to bring some Western and thus more national perspective to our fellow operators from Ontario.”
“The addition of CityWest to the Association will only add to our scope, strength and effectiveness as we represent the interests of small incumbent local exchange carriers in Ontario and British Columbia”, said OTA executive director Jonathan Holmes, before hinting that the association could make changes “to reflect its broader reach”.
Based in Newmarket, Ontario, the OTA represents the regulatory and commercial interests of twenty three diversified small incumbent local exchange carriers (SILECs) which together serve over 100,000 access lines and provide a broad range of telephone, Internet, cellular and digital television services across many rural regions in Ontario and British Columbia.
