Oprah’s TV channel arrives early


TORONTO – Canadian viewers will get a sneak peek into new channel OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network starting this Friday, two months prior to its scheduled launch.

OWN will officially debut in over six million Canadian homes on March 1st on the Corus-owned channel currently known as VIVA.  But beginning January 7, Corus will feature weekly two-hour nested blocks of OWN programming on its W Network and VIVA channels.

"We are thrilled to see the runaway success of the launch of OWN in the U.S. this past weekend," said Corus Television president, Doug Murphy, in the announcement.  "As we countdown to our March 1 launch of OWN in Canada, we are similarly confident that the power of OWN will resonate with Canadian audiences."

The nested blocks will air on W Network every Friday night at 9 p.m. ET/PT from Friday, January 7 through to Friday, February 25.  Additional blocks on VIVA beginning January 7 include Fridays from 12 a.m. – 2 a.m. ET, Sundays from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. ET and Mondays from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. ET.
