Operation High Speed: Cogeco receives $6.3M to connect Les Basques RCM homes

QUEBEC CITY — The federal and Quebec governments today announced they are providing $6.3 million in funding to Cogeco as part of the Canada-Quebec Operation High Speed initiative to support the deployment of high-speed Internet services to 690 households in Les Basques Regional County Municipality by September 2022.

The total cost of the broadband project is $7.7 million, which includes Cogeco’s contribution. The municipalities covered by the project include Sainte-Françoise, Sainte-Rita, Saint-Guy, Saint-Jean-de-Dieu, Saint-Clément and Saint Médard.

“Cogeco is currently taking inventory to confirm the exact number of households that currently do not have access to high-speed Internet and will be covered by the deployment of services,” reads a press release.

The governments of Canada and Quebec launched Operation High Speed on March 22, with an initial combined investment of $826.3 million to connect 148,000 Quebec households to high-speed Internet by September 2022.

On July 21, phase two of the initiative was launched, with an additional $94 million in funding announced to help connect 18,200 more households in Quebec and to also speed up deployment to 34,500 homes targeted by the previous rounds of funding, according to today’s press release.
