Ontario schools granted free access to NFB inventory

TORONTO – Students and educators in Ontario have been given free, on-line access to Canadian films from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) to help them learn more about Canada’s culture and history.

Through an agreement between the provincial government and NFB, Ontario classrooms can now access the Screening Room, an on-line resource featuring 1,500 productions including full-length films, trailers and clips for all ages, in both French and English.

“Ontario is proud to showcase Canada’s diverse and unique culture in our classrooms”, said Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Education, in the announcement. “The NFB’s online tool is a complementary resource to our curricula and will provide an opportunity for our students to learn about issues from a Canadian perspective.”

Previously, each school board had to pay for and order films and other productions from the NFB.  British Columbia, New Brunswick and the Yukon have similar agreements in place with the NFB.
