OneSoccer to air exclusive live coverage of 2022 Canadian Championship


TORONTO — Mediapro Canada announced today its dedicated soccer streaming service OneSoccer will air exclusive live coverage of the 2022 Canadian Championship, the country’s highest domestic club competition, starting with the preliminary round matches being played tonight and tomorrow.

Round one matches feature HFX Wanderers, Atlético Ottawa, York United, Cavalry FC, FC Edmonton, Forge FC and Valour FC from the Canadian Premier League (CPL), Vancouver Whitecaps from Major League Soccer (MLS), and semi-professional teams Guelph United FC and CS Mont-Royal Outremont.

Organized by Canada Soccer, the Canadian Championship currently involves 13 clubs from across Canada — the eight CPL teams, the three Canadian teams playing in MLS (Toronto FC, CF Montréal and the Whitecaps) and the champions of the semi-professional men’s leagues in Ontario and Québec, explains a press release.

The 2021 CPL champion Pacific FC and MLS’ Toronto FC and CF Montréal, who were the finalists of the 2021 Canadian Championship, have all earned byes through to the quarterfinal round, which will begin on May 24.

Mediapro Canada is producing all 12 matches of the 2022 Canadian Championship, including the two semifinals in late June and the final in July, as well as the 2020 Canadian Championship Final between Forge FC and Toronto FC, which has been delayed until June 4, 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to airing in Canada on OneSoccer via Telus Optik TV, FuboTV and the OneSoccer app, the 2022 Canadian Championship tournament will be aired by Mediapro Canada’s international broadcast partners in the Americas and Europe, including Flow Sports in the Caribbean and Hi! Sports TV in Mexico.

“Pre-, half-time and post-game coverage of selected Canadian Championship matches will be hosted in the OneSoccer studios by award-winning broadcaster Andi Petrillo with analysis from Oliver Platt and Gareth Wheeler, while commentary will be provided in both English and French,” reads the press release.
