OMNI to air Super Cinema station-wide, adding two million households

TORONTO – Rogers multicultural broadcaster, OMNI Television, is unveiling new station-wide scheduling for its popular Chinese Super Cinema series starting Saturday, September 20th.

Chinese Super Cinema will present its latest season of "HK" movies to an audience of established and soon-to-be fans alike.

“Chinese Super Cinema offers a subtitled genre that reaches across culture and generation each week,” said Madeline Ziniak, national vice-president of OMNI, in a press release. “Ontario viewers have hugely demonstrated their loyalty for the series and we anticipate viewership will skyrocket when we introduce Chinese Super Cinema to an additional two million households.”

Chinese Super Cinema will feature an assortment of first-run movies, including recent releases and award-winners such as: Sparrows (2008) – directed by Johnny To; Secret (2007) – directed by Jay Chou; Marriage Trap (2008) – directed by Zhang Cheng.

“We’ve secured another strong line-up of movies, many of which have never been seen before on Canadian television, and are pleased to be their exclusive broadcaster in this market,” says Malcolm Dunlop, executive vice-president of programming, for Rogers Media Television. “The fact that Chinese Super Cinema is now being made available throughout our newly expanded coverage area moves us closer to our goal of a truly national network.”

Until recently, OMNI was only an Ontario brand, but acquisitions and new licenses expanded the broadcaster to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
