Poirier, who was a part of the original SCTE Ontario Chapter in the 1970’s, also played a key role in re-establishing the chapter. He was also a member of the SCTE standards commitees for many years, and was the association’s first Canadian director-at-large.

According to Poirier’s LinkedIn profile page, he had served as CableServ’s manager of special projects for the past 14 years. Poirier spent several decades in the CATV industry, with positions at Ottawa Cablevision, Raytheon Canada, and Maclean Hunter Cable TV, as well as almost 20 years at Triple Crown Electronics, where he held the position of vice-president of CATV operations and engineering.

Poirier is survived by his daughter, granddaughter, and siblings. In lieu of flowers, and as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Liver Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
