PICTOU COUNTY – The federal government announced today that the Universal Broadband Fund is putting $31 million into Nova Scotia communities in Pictou County.
The funding is expected to provide access to 4,700 households in rural communities in the county, as the feds race to inject billions in the provinces to connect the entire country to at least 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds by 2030.
Since 2015, the federal government has invested more than $20 million in broadband projects in the province.
In November, the feds plowed over $400 million into the UBF program, bringing the total amount of funding to $3.225 billion. Innovation Canada has been partnering with the provinces on funding directly – as opposed to receiving applications from service providers – to accelerate build outs.
