Calling it a major connectivity milestone for Northern Canada, Northwestel on Tuesday announced residential customers in Whitehorse and Yellowknife can now access internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps with unlimited monthly usage.
This is the fastest internet service available on the market in these territorial capitals, Northwestel said in a press release.
Northwestel is introducing its new 1 Gbps plan at the same price as its previous top-tier 700 Mbps package, giving customers the benefit of the higher speed at no extra cost. Northwestel customers currently at the 500 Mbps level can upgrade to 1 Gbps for an additional $10 per month.
Subscribers to the new package will also receive one year of complimentary Northwestel TV Plus App Premium.
Customers in Whitehorse and Yellowknife can sign up for the new service online at nwtel.ca, by phone or by visiting a Northwestel store near them.
“Our priority is to deliver the best network in Northern Canada — for Northerners, by Northerners. We’re building on this momentum and have our sights set on bringing gigabit speeds to fibre communities, expanding our fibre network into more areas of Northern BC and surrounding areas of Whitehorse, Yukon,” said Nathan Pullar, vice president of network technology at Northwestel, in the press release.
