TULITA and FORT GOOD HOPE, NT — Northwestel, a subsidiary of Bell, announced today the launch of fibre Internet in the Mackenzie Valley communities of Tulita and Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories.
“Fort Good Hope and Tulita are the first fly-in communities with seasonal winter-road access to be fully connected to fibre in the north,” a press release says.
With the launch, customers in these communities can access Northwestel’s high-speed, unlimited fibre Internet service, offering speeds up to 300 Mbps, as well as live HD TV with Northwestel TV Plus, the release says.
The Northwestel TV Plus service, starting at $25 per month, lets customers watch on TVs and Android or iOS devices.
“Northwestel has connected its first 2 fly-in communities to high-speed internet using full fibre technology, significantly improving broadband access and speeds,” said Tammy April, Northwestel vice-president of customer experience, in the release.
“Our engineers and technicians are so grateful for the local support we’ve received in working through the unique challenges of bringing fibre right into homes in Tulita and Fort Good Hope.”
These fibre upgrades are part of Northwestel’s Every Community Project – a three-year plan to bring high-speed unlimited Internet to 10,000 homes across the Northwest Territories and Yukon, the release explains.
“The improvements were funded by the CRTC Broadband Fund as well as Northwestel’s own significant investments,” the release reads.
