OTTAWA – CMPA president and CEO Norm Bolen has chosen to step down from his position in June, says Canadian Media Production Association chair Tom Cox.
“Three years ago, Norm put his personal plans on hold to serve as president and CEO of our association during a pivotal time for both our organization and the industry. His contributions have been immeasurable and we thank him for his steadfast commitment and exemplary leadership,” said Cox, in a release.
Bolen was hired in 2009. He was formerly executive vice-president, content, for Alliance Atlantis, and prior to that spent over 20 years as an executive with the CBC. The search for a new president is currently underway. Though Bolen (right) will formally step down in June, he will remain available to the organization to ensure a seamless transition, said the association.
“Among many achievements, Norm led the historic Terms of Trade Agreement between the CMPA and Canada’s five largest private broadcasters, our timely rebranding from CFTPA to CMPA to reflect the evolution of the content creation sector, and our significant participation in numerous CRTC proceedings, which achieved substantial gains and safeguards for Canada’s independent producers. Norm has also steered the broadening of our membership, and ensured a solid financial base from which we look to a strong future,” added Cox

“Norm has helped us up our game. We have all benefited tremendously from his deep understanding of the industry, keen vision and unwavering guidance,” added John Barrack, COO and chief legal officer, CMPA.
“These past years with the CMPA have been remarkable and I'm proud of what we’ve accomplished. It’s been an honour to work with an outstanding board and extremely talented staff as we represented the vital needs of our membership, within an industry that plays an important role in Canada’s economic growth and cultural richness. Though I will always remain a passionate supporter of the independent production sector, the time is right for me to step back and have a little fun as I ponder what comes next,” said Bolen.
