MONTREAL – Original content is paying off for Groupe V Media’s online platform Noovo.ca.
The company says it has tracked more than 55% growth in viewership and user numbers in 2019 compared to last fall (the numbers are from its own Google Analytics, comparing the periods of September 17 to November 17 in both years). Group V’s originals, whether live or catch-up, is what is drawing viewers online.
Noovo.ca saw 15 million views this fall, which is in addition to the 3.5 million viewers who watched live, says the press release. Shows air online concurrently with the TV broadcasts.
1.9 million users consume the site’s blogs, podcasts and broadcasts each month, on average, too.
À table avec mon ex generated more than 1.25 million views since its arrival in September and Un souper presque parfait has seen nearly 530,000 viewers (338,000 live) since the beginning of September.
The Noovo.ca exclusive summer series Colocs! Drew nearly 700,000 views in the summer, added the company. The press release also noted 58% of its users are aged 18-34.
Of course, Noovo.ca may well be on its way to Bell Media in the new year. Readers will recall Bell has agreed to purchase Group V, pending CRTC approval. The Commission doesn’t have to approve the sale of Noovo, since it is a digital portal, but Bell Media won’t purchase one without the other. There will be opposition, however. The hearing is set for February 12.
