MARKHAM – A half-hour magazine show dedicated to minor hockey will be added to the schedule of digi-net The NHL Network on August 2 at 6:30 p.m.
Kevin V. Huhn, creator of The Hockey Source – The Ultimate Resource for Minor Hockey (THS), is behind the program, called of course, The Hockey Source. During its first season, it will air on Tuesday nights for 13 weeks. It addresses specific needs within the world of minor hockey, offering information about many elements of the game, from each role’s different perspective.
Huhn, who is executive producer and host, describes the show as: "entertaining and educational for everyone involved in minor hockey – it provides something of interest for people of all ages and roles," he said in the press release.
Viewers will get a look behind the scenes, and see action on the ice. There will be interviews, hot topic discussions, and audience participation. Information will include tips and fun facts. Each show has one theme, covered in nine segments.
Highlights of the pilot, which focuses on skating, include a tour of a manufacturing facility, the story of the evolution of skates, and an interview with The Hockey Source’s subject matter expert on equipment.
Thirteen such experts contribute to the shows’ content and messages, including: Quebec uber-goalie coach François Allaire on goaltending; Dr. Michael Clarfield on injury/recovery; and Dr. Mike Houston on nutrition. These experts lend their expertise to support the vision of THS: "To provide valuable information about minor hockey to people, so they can make sound decisions and have more fun," says the release.
Huhn says he also has plans to expand the show into the U.S.
The TV show is Huhn’s third major initiative in developing the sport. He also has written a book, Hockey-ology, The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success for Minor Hockey, and created a web site, www.thehockeysource.tv, which have established him as a minor hockey expert.
The NHL Network is owned and operated by CTV Specialty, a division of Bell Globemedia.
