TORONTO and BURBANK, Calif. — Video broadcast solutions provider Nextologies and mobile broadcasting company PSSI Global Services have been named the joint recipients of the International Association of Broadcast and Media (IABM) 2020 BaM Award for best collaboration in a media project for their SpaceX live launch and splashdown shows earlier this year.
On May 30, Nextologies and PSSI collaborated on Space Launch Live, the first SpaceX live launch show, which aired on Discovery and the SpaceX website. To produce the broadcast, PSSI provided satellite, fibre and IP services for remote production, bringing together more than 30 separate feeds and delivering the live show to a global audience. Nextologies provided proprietary software, gear and web portals which enabled the show producers to communicate remotely with the hosts and talent, allowing them to direct the show, and even control cameras, from several remote locations.
“This dynamic collaboration eliminated the need for four or five additional vendors on the overall production and resulted in a program feed of the highest quality and lowest latency,” reads the companies’ press release today.
Based on the success of the Space Launch Live show in May, Nextologies and PSSI were invited to produce live broadcasts for additional SpaceX missions in August and November.
The 2020 BaM Awards were held as a virtual event on December 2. On the IABM’s awards website, the collaboration between Nextologies and PSSI is described as: “A complex system and operation, using to the limits the latest in a wide range of technologies that are available today. An innovative solution delivered efficiently and in a very short time during Covid-19 restrictions.”
