TORONTO – nextMEDIA Banff and the 30th edition of the Banff World Television Festival both begin next week at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel – and Cartt.ca will be there too.
New this year is the Telefilm Canada TV 360 program, established to provide cross-platform development opportunities for Canadian producers, writers and directors to successfully pitch and market projects to Canadian and international broadcasters and funders. Participants will also receive coaching on social media, mobile, gaming, design and technology to help steer the projects from TV series to the dot-com world.
Organizers have also announced the nominees for the interactive categories for the annual Banff World Television Awards (also known as the ‘Rockies’), to be awarded on June 6. The interactive categories, which have been re-named ‘Immersive Entertainment’ and ‘Original Online Program’, were chosen by 20 jurors from Canada, (CBC-Montreal and The Banff Center), Germany, (HMR Cologne), and Russia, (Sarmath01 Network from Corona Films, St Petersburg).
The nominees for the Immersive Entertainment category are:
– BITWORLD – Rescue Toya!, NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.), Japan;
– Bow Street Runner, Channel 4, UK;
– Britain From Above, BBC, UK;
– Die Deutschen (The Germans), ZDF, Germany;
– The Secret Device, Double Twenty in association with Universal Pictures and Larry Gordon Productions, USA;
– Whack the Mole – The MI High Alternate Reality Game, Xenophile Media, Canada.
The nominees for the Original Online Programs category are:
– Embarrassing Bodies, Maverick Television Ltd. for Channel 4, UK;
– Gaza-Sderot : life in spite of everything, Bo Travail in association with Alma Films, Trabelsi Productions, Ramattan Studio, Upian.com, France;
– Mi Vida Loca – Real Spanish, Real Drama, BBC in association with Secuoyas for BBC Online, UK;
– The Insiders, Channel 4, UK.
