TORONTO – Sportsnet unveiled a new multiplatform original content studio Thursday where its personalities will produce digital and social content designed to complement its content on traditional TV, radio, and online.

The new content includes the best of ‘the week that was’ in sports news, social media, and pop culture in The Rundown; video versions of podcasts like 31 Thoughts and Free Association; Grinds My Gears where hosts sound off on topical issues in an audience-facing ‘rant’ that also encourages the audience to share their opinions; and quick snippets of video content via Instagram Stories where fans can vote thumbs up or down.

“Beyond the unique experience of live sports, fans want to interact with each other and expand their experience,” said Sportsnet president Bart Yabsley, in the news release.  “This new studio and the content it generates will be the catalyst to engage audiences on their own terms when, where, and on the device of their choosing.”

The new initiative also allows advertisers to “seamlessly integrate brand messaging” into the content, added the Sportsnet release.
