VANCOUVER – Corus-owned talk radio station 980 CKNW is readying a new monthly series aimed at building community connections between its listeners and local municipal leaders.

Mayors Day, which debuts on Monday, will see local mayors join an on-air host in-studio for a two-hour co-hosting stint. Mayors will interview guests and engage with listeners on the hot-button issues of their constituency.

The schedule for the inaugural Mayors Day on April 23 will see Richard Walton, Mayor of North Vancouver District, co-host The Jon McComb Show from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM; Greg Moore, Mayor of Port Coquitlam, co-host The Simi Sara Show from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM; and Nicole Read, Mayor of Maple Ridge, co-host The Lynda Steele Show from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

The station said that Mayors Day will continue one weekday per month, with the next event scheduled for Wednesday, May 23.

Mayors Day is about providing listeners across all of the Lower Mainland with compelling, community-based talk,” said senior program director Larry Gifford, in the news release.  “This series reaffirms our commitment to delivering timely, relevant conversations that are representative of our far-reaching listenership while highlighting the ongoing shift in the political climate.”
