New partner means wireless coverage expansion for Eastlink

HALIFAX – Eastlink Wireless customers can talk, surf and text in more places down east than ever before, thanks to a “unique network partner approach to supplement its own network coverage,” the company announced Thursday afternoon.

The Bragg family-owned cable and wireless company says that its customers now have the most coverage of any carrier in Atlantic Canada (see map, pictured).

“We’re unable to name the partner we have added and we have excellent coverage here in Atlantic Canada but there were places – whether it was a cottage or a golf course or so on where customers might have been a little nervous about coverage,” said Dan MacDonald, EastLink’s vice-president of marketing, in an interview with Cartt.ca.

“We’ve always had Rogers as a roaming partner but we have added another very significant partner to give us this now excellent coverage… It’s 2014 and people want awesome coverage. They don’t want to compromise.”

While MacDonald declined to name the network partner when we asked, comparing the new Eastlink network coverage maps to the various Canadian wireless providers, it appears very similar to the Telus network map.

“For the Eastlink wireless customer, literally as of yesterday, July 30th, a customer might have been happy with everything, but if they went to their sister’s cottage or this or that place, maybe they would have had a spot where they didn’t have the proper level of coverage. Today should be a very different day for that person,” said MacDonald.

This expansion of wireless coverage follows Eastlink’s recently announced nationwide talk, text, and data plans – which eliminates roaming and long distance fees within Canada.

“We continue to work to bring our customers the best possible overall wireless experience, including easy-to-understand and flexible plans, great value for money, and excellent customer service – all from the local provider you know and trust,” said Eastlink Wireless president Matthew MacLellan, in the press release. “And now they will also be able to connect to the best available network, whether they’re streaming video in Bridgewater or New Glasgow, confirming their next tee time from Ingonish Beach, or checking for urgent emails while camping in Kejimkujik National Park.”
