NEW YORK – A new piracy monitoring system called ‘Torrent Tracker Reports’ promises to find out what TV content is most popular on-line, which in turn will allow traditional content providers to maximize value for their content.
Launched by New York-based Jumpwire Media, the reports are created with data from peer-to-peer file sharing protocol BitTorrent, coupled with analysis from its research team. The results are digital piracy reports which the company said can be used to better assess the value and demand of particular content around the world.
“Most television distribution companies see piracy as a loss instead of a gain, but we feel that piracy is a market signal that shows us where the demand is and where the opportunities are”, said Jumpwire president Gavin McGarry, in a statement. “There are more than 50 million users on BitTorrent each day and consumers are becoming their own programmers finding the content they want to watch, when they want to watch it. This trend is rapidly changing the TV environment and challenging how traditional broadcasters and advertisers go about capturing a greater market share.”
McGarry said that the Torrent Tracker Reports will help to find new markets, identify content trends, and aid in broadcaster negotiations by pricing content more effectively.
