New live learning seminar next week and other SCTE stuff

TORONTO – The Ontario Chapter of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers is reminding members of the "Troubleshooting VoIP in a DOCSIS Network" web seminar on Wednesday, Dec. 21 as the next installment of the SCTE Live Learning series.

The seminar will focus upon potential sources of the most common VoIP impairments, how they are measured, detected, and resolved. As Voice-over- Internet Protocol (VoIP) emerges as a large revenue-generating opportunity in Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) networks, the ability to quickly identify and resolve VoIP service problems has become a high priority to protect subscriber satisfaction.

This is free seminar for members, a nominal fee for non-members. Register at www.scte.org/events/oeventdetailed.cfm?ID=1560

Also announced were the Ontario chapter board election results. The three elected board members for 2006-’07 are John Anderson, Bruce Marshall, and Boris Eventov. They will join Michele Beck, Robin McIntyre and Laura O’Hare on the board.

“We would like to thank Richard Boyne, Mario Foresta, Mario Massi, Robert McCann, and Mark O’Neil for offering to serve on the board and participating in the election. This was an impressive slate of candidates,” says the chapter release.

“We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our retiring board members, Ian Oliver, President, and Lawrence Watson, Treasurer, for their contributions over the past few years to the Ontario Chapter. Both Ian and Lawrence have been involved since the inception of the chapter, and have been very instrumental in its success thus far.”

As far as the overall SCTE membership campaign is concerned, the Ontario chapter came in third out of 58 chapters across North America, bringing in 84 new members, and five lapsed/retired/student members. This is the second year in a row Ontario has been one of the top three chapters.

The year’s total goal was to attract 700 new members to SCTE and the 2005 campaign saw 865 new recruits.

Next up is the SCTE Conference on Emerging Technologies, January 10-12, 2006 in Tampa, Fla. Pre-registration and reduced member rates end December 22. www.scte.org
