New IPv6 PoP deployed in Calgary

CALGARY and FREMONT, Calif. — Hurricane Electric, owner and operator of what it says is the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, today announced it has deployed a new point of presence (PoP) in Arrow Group’s data centre in downtown Calgary.

Arrow Group provides network colocation and wholesale Internet services, and its data centre is strategically located to serve the area’s many energy and high-tech businesses, says the Hurricane Electric press release. Customers will be able to cross connect to tier one providers, as well as the Calgary Internet Exchange (YYCIX), the first Internet exchange point (IXP) in Alberta, founded in 2012.

The PoP at Arrow Group’s data centre is Hurricane Electric’s second location in Calgary and sixteenth in Canada. (To see Hurricane Electric’s network map, please click here.)

Arrow Group’s customers now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports. In addition, customers at the facility can exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network, which offers more than 20,000 BGP (border gateway protocol) sessions with over 8,000 different networks via more than 250 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports, says the release.
