New fibre networks improve broadband in Charlevoix

CHARLEVOIX REGION, Que. — With the completion of three new backbone networks in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, announced Monday, 700 households in several communities now have better access to high-speed Internet.

Funded through the federal government’s Connect to Innovate program, the three infrastructure projects were made possible through a combined investment of almost $1.5 million from the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec and Bell, which built the networks. The communities which now have access to the fibre-optic networks include Maillard, Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Cap-Aux-Corbeaux, Baie-Saint-Paul, Jean-Noël and La Malbaie.

The projects were carried out as part of a large intergovernmental initiative to provide connectivity to up to 24,000 households in 58 rural communities in Quebec, says the press release.
