HALIFAX – DHX Television has licensed the rebooted version of Teletubbies for exclusive linear English broadcast in Canada on its re-branded preschool channel Family Jr., beginning late this year.

Starring the timeless and unique costume characters Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po, the series consists of 60 brand new 12-minute episodes produced by DHX Media, each featuring an original adventure with a strong focus on exploratory fun.  With rewarding rituals, sound play and physical comedy, the new-generation Teletubbies will build upon many features of the original series, but offer some exciting and surprising new developments too, reads the press release.

"The international strength of the Teletubbies brand is unparalleled in its field, and we're looking forward to introducing our audience to the contemporary edition of this iconic series via Family Jr., which will enter the market this fall," said DHX Television SVP and GM Joe Tedesco, in the news release. "The revamped CGI aesthetic, comedic elements and high-tech motifs will certainly appeal to this generation's tech-savvy preschoolers, as well as their parents."

In related news, DHX Media has appointed global toy industry leader Spin Master to distribute the upcoming range of Teletubbies plush, plastics and bath toys in Canada, the U.S., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.  The Teletubbies toy range is set to debut in 2016.
