TORONTO – TVO and Sportsnet, in separate announcements, are making new apps available for the BlackBerry 10. TVO is offering six TVOKids educational children's apps for BlackBerry, while Sportsnet is offering a newly re-designed Sportsnet Mobile app.
TVO’s apps available for download on the BlackBerry World storefront include Alphabet Goop, Explore the Night and Sign Match for kids ages two to five years, and Cake Artist for kids ages six to 11. Also for kids ages six to 11, Reading Rangers is available for download for 99 cents and Tumbletown Mathletics for $1.99. Additional TVOKids apps will be released throughout the year for BlackBerry 10 customers.
Offering parents a safe, educational alternative in gaming, TVOKids apps support a wide range of learning objectives from the Ontario School Curriculum including math, literacy and science. Each app includes information for parents on how the game supports the curriculum and how to maximize the educational outcomes.
"TVO is committed to building children's math, literacy and science skills and we are delighted to join forces with BlackBerry for the launch of BlackBerry 10," said Lisa de Wilde, Chief Executive Officer of TVO. "TVO's partnership with BlackBerry enables us to foster more innovation in the digital space, by combining on-the-go learning opportunities that reinforce the Ontario curriculum with cutting-edge technology."
The Sportsnet Mobile app combines speed and functionality to provide greater access to stats, customizable alerts and up-to-the-second game scores from the biggest leagues from around the world. It comes pre-loaded on BB10 devices for Rogers customers (available free from BlackBerry World) and features a gateway to the fastest, most in-depth sports coverage on-the-go. The new functionality and enhanced user experience will provide sports fans with all the latest news, stories and updates directly from sportsnet.ca writers, such as award-winning journalist Stephen Brunt, Michael Grange and baseball writer Shi Davidi and more.

“Hard core fans want to access sports content how, when and where they want it,” said Pary Bell, Vice President and General Manager, Rogers Digital Media. “The Sportsnet Mobile app on BlackBerry 10 will provide those fans with industry-leading customization that will allow them to access the premium sports content and information that is most relevant to them. This is just one of the many powerful ways in which Sportsnet intends to lead the way in digital innovation in 2013.”
The Sportsnet announcement follows the recent unveiling of Sportsnet World Online. The subscription video on-demand service provides sports fans with exclusive live and on-demand streaming of premium soccer, cricket, and rugby matches not available anywhere else. In the coming weeks Sportsnet plans to launch an iOS and Android app.
