STRATHROY, Ont. and LAS CRUCES, N.M. — C6 Launch Systems, a new Canadian player in the satellite launch space, has signed an agreement with Spaceport America to use the Las Cruces, N.M.-based company’s vertical launch sites facilities for testing operations and activities, the two companies announced Tuesday.
C6 Launch Systems builds rockets designed to launch small satellites (up to 30 kg), and its launch vehicle is purpose-built for a high-cadence, low-cost orbital launch program, says the press release announcing the agreement between the two companies.
Over a six-week period, starting in January 2021, the Canadian rocket company will install a vertical test stand at Spaceport America and conduct system integration tests including several engine firings. The tests will validate the avionics, engine control, ground control and communications subsystems, says the press release.
“Spaceport America has been great to work with over the past few months,” said Richard McCammon, president of C6 Launch Systems, in the press release. “I am truly excited about our new partnership. This integration test is a major milestone for us as we continue to develop our launch vehicle.”
“C6 Launch is a young, innovative company, part of the new frontier of commercial space developments, and a perfect fit for our site,” added Scott McLaughlin, Spaceport America’s interim executive director. “We are glad to play an important role in their growth, and hope to be a partner for many years to come.”
Canada, of course, has no spaceport of its own.
