TORONTO – Rogers Media Television will officially take over OLN as of August 31st, 2008. This follows the purchase of the specialty channel which took place August 1st, 2008.

As previously reported by Cartt.ca, Rogers had owned a third of the channel, with the rest owned by CTVglobemedia and Comcast. Rogers agreed to buy out the other partners in 2007.

"We are thrilled to welcome OLN into our broadcast family and are pleased to be able to reach more viewers with the exciting and innovative programming OLN has to offer" Alain Strati, vice-president, specialty TV and development, Rogers Media Television.

Also new at Rogers Media is a new brand for its recently acquired Vancouver TV station, Channel M. As was already known, the company re-branded it OMNI, in keeping with its multicultural broadcast brands in Alberta and Ontario.

"We are proud to bring the OMNI brand to ethnocultural audiences in British Columbia and committed to maintaining channel m’s local focus while building on their successes," says Geoff Poulton, vice-president and general manager of television for Rogers Media in Vancouver. "Rogers OMNI BC is positioned to the benefit of audience and advertiser alike, we re-launch with a new schedule that has been enhanced by multilingual/multicultural programming from other OMNI properties; this collaboration will provide viewers with greater choice and clients with expanded reach."
